Care from first consultation to final finish

A beautiful room is the outcome of many small decisions made well. The way we protect, prepare and finish surfaces is central to our work, particularly where a property has important period details.

We welcome enquiries for whole-house schemes, grand halls and staircases, coordinated interior redecorations, detailed woodwork and other substantial decorating projects.

01

Residential decorating tailored to how you live

A house may contain formal reception rooms, family spaces, busy circulation areas and quieter bedrooms, each of which calls for a different decorating decision. We discuss who uses each space, the natural light, the condition of existing finishes and what matters most to the owner. A complete decorative scheme should feel coherent without making every room look the same.

The practical side is equally important. A full-house programme may need to move room by room, preserve safe access through a staircase or work around furniture and valuable possessions. Agreeing those priorities early allows protection and preparation to be planned, with the intended look and the day-to-day requirements of the household considered together.

02

Grand entrances, detailed woodwork and architectural features

In distinguished properties, a staircase or hallway often sets the tone for the entire interior. Bannisters, spindles, doors, window reveals, skirtings, cornices and panelling can be some of the most visible elements of the finished scheme. The preparation method must reflect the profile and present condition of those elements, particularly where many previous coats have softened the detail.

High ceilings and difficult access also influence the programme. We consider the safe approach to working at height, the protection of nearby surfaces and the order of painting so that walls, ceilings and timberwork are given appropriate attention. These are the areas where patient preparation and careful cutting-in are especially noticeable.

03

Colour, finish and wallcovering choices

The right finish is about more than choosing a popular shade. Light changes throughout the day, and a colour beside traditional oak or stone can read very differently alongside bright white joinery. The decision between matt, durable matt, eggshell and other finishes also affects appearance, cleaning and how imperfections are revealed.

For wallpaper and decorative wallcoverings, wall condition, paste compatibility, pattern repeat and the exact hanging sequence all influence the result. Where specialist papers, historic surfaces or unusual coatings are involved, manufacturer guidance and a suitable assessment come before commitment to a decorative system.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Things worth knowing

Do you decorate individual rooms or complete houses?

We particularly welcome complete houses, extensive hallways and substantial room schemes. A smaller project may also be suitable if it involves fine detailing or specific technical requirements.

What happens to furniture and flooring?

Protection requirements are discussed before work starts. The scope can allow for covering surfaces, moving agreed items and sequencing work around areas that need to remain in use.

Can you work in a period or listed home?

We can discuss the decorative brief and assess the existing surfaces. Listed buildings and sensitive historic fabric may need consent or specialist conservation input, which should be confirmed before specifying or carrying out work.
