Designer wallpaper can transform a room, but it will not hide a weak or unstable surface. Before hanging, it is important to consider residual paint, dust, uneven filler, absorbency and whether lining paper or further preparation would improve the result. The correct approach depends on the paper and the substrate, not simply the colour or pattern chosen.
Delicate, textured or specialist coverings may have strict manufacturer instructions on adhesive, pasting method and handling. We can discuss those details before ordering so that the preparation and installation approach match the actual product.
Repeat, drop match, panel width and the starting position can have a considerable effect on how a patterned wall reads. In a formal room, the placement of a dominant motif around the fireplace or centred between architectural features may matter more than the simplest starting point. Corners, window reveals and uneven historic walls can add further complexity.
We encourage clients to supply the complete product details, batch numbers and wall measurements early. A suitable allowance for trimming, matching and contingencies helps reduce the risk of running short or mixing batches partway through a highly visible wall.
A single feature wall may need particular attention to symmetry and edge detail, while wallpapering an entire room involves more junctions, openings and transitions. Traditional papers, contemporary prints and textured coverings should each be considered on their own merits. Surrounding woodwork, picture rails and wall colours can be coordinated to support the overall scheme.
For period and luxury residential interiors, we can discuss whether the paper is intended as a quiet background or a principal design feature. That decision informs placement, adjacent paint colours and how the finished surface is viewed in the room.
Yes, we can discuss customer-selected products. Please provide the manufacturer, product specification, roll size and batch details so suitability and installation requirements can be reviewed.
Not every wall needs lining. It depends on the surface and the chosen covering. We assess whether lining, filling or other preparation is the more appropriate approach.
The allowance depends on pattern repeat, room shape, door and window openings and batch availability. We recommend calculating quantities from the actual measurements and product specifications, rather than applying one percentage to every design.
Tell us about your property, your plans and the finish you are hoping to achieve. We would be pleased to discuss the details.
